Kindle This!

A request to the internet hive mind. I’m filling up my Amazon Kindle for the long flights ahead and I’m looking for recommendations. Knowing me and the type of thing I usually like to read, anybody out there have any suggestions? My latest purchase: GO GO GIRLS OF THE APOCOLYPSE by Victor Gischler, if that tells you anything. Mostly interested in hardboiled and noir but willing to branch out for books that sound intriguing. Oh, and suggestions need to be available on Kindle.

I was thrilled to see Richard Prather’s books have been Kindled. I’ve already downloaded a few favorites to help preserve the fragile spines of my vintage paperbacks. However, what I’m really looking for is stuff I might not have heard of.

Best. Birthday. Ever.

What am I doing this morning? Eating a lemon cream tart (in the same spirit, but actually much better than key lime pie) and reading Palahniuk’s SNUFF on my new Kindle.

KINDLEKINDLEKINDLEKINDLEKINDLE!!!

I’ve always been more of a luddite than a techno-whore, but hot damn I love this little gizmo. Yeah, sure it’s flawed in various small ways and yeah I can’t get every single book I might want on it, but it still holds over 200 books. That’s 200 books that will not be piled up on a chair in my tiny house. I no longer have to stick to the no-hardcover rule I instigated because I don’t have space for anything bigger than a paperback. I no longer have to lug a backpack full of books on the plane to calm my fear of running out of things to read.

Oh and speaking of Amazon, it’s come to my attention that there have been some problems with the shipping address connected to my wish list. I think I’ve fixed it now, but at this point I would rather just have gift certificates to help me fill up my Kindle.

The Royal Birthday Month

Let the wild rumpus start!

OK, maybe not. I’m kicking off the royal birthday month by sitting at home and working. Yesterday’s BEA signing with Max Allan Collins went really well (even though we were over in the west ghetto with the t-shirts and tooth whitening) and afterwards I chowed down at the Water Grill (Meyer lemon and lavender crème brulee!) with my Dorchester peeps. Also had a chance to hang a little with Eddie “The Czar of Noir” Muller and the saucy [info]ladyeuthanasia but didn’t do much in the way of prowling the actual con. I thought about going back today but feel like I need to make up for the lost time at the desk. Schmoozing is all well and good, but you can’t hustle your stuff if you don’t have any stuff to hustle. So it’s back to the grind for this Birthday Girl.

Meanwhile, Faustketeers, allow me to direct your attention to my Amazon birthday wish list.

My Amazon.com Wish List

I’ve also included a few non-book items this year because I’m seriously running out of shelf-space in this tiny house. Also I realize nobody in their right mind will actually buy me a Kindle, but hey, it sure would cut down on the shelf-space problem.
