Working on a non-fiction project. Can’t go into detail about it yet, but the topic is a complex, thorny issue that’s led me to all kinds of interesting questions. Like: Why do women fall in love with murderers and men fall in love with victims? What do you think?
On this past Saturday, I took a much needed day off and did the amazing Real Black Dahlia tour from Esotouric. I had such a blast on this “bus adventure into the secret heart of L.A.” that I’m now hopelessly hooked and can’t wait to try the James M. Cain tour, or the Chandler, or the Blood and Dumplings San Gabriel Valley tour.
The Dahlia tour started at the legendary Biltmore Hotel, often wrongly credited as the last place Elizabeth Short was ever seen. In fact it was the second to last place, the place where her married boyfriend Red Manley left her “waiting for her sister.” Other stops on the tour include the Greyhound station where she left her suitcase full of photos and letters, the actual last place she was seen alive; the Crown Grill Bar, (now known as the Club Galaxy), and of course the location where her bisected body was discovered.
